Township Tours Cape TOwn
Our most cultural experience
Wanderer’s Cape Town Township Tours takes visitors on a guided visit to the lesser known but no- less exciting parts of Cape Town. The recommended township itinerary starts with a visit to the long march to freedom which is a growing collection of currently 100 life size bronze statues starting with rebel leaders and freedom fighters from the 1700’s and ending with Nelson Mandela representing the democracy of South Africa all against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain. The next highlight is South Africa’s largest and fastest growing township Khayelitsha before spending a few hours exploring South Africa’s oldest township Langa. In Langa you will get the opportunity to visit the arts and craft centre, try the local beer should you wish and also visit a local home to get a real feel of what life in the township is like.
This eye-opening experience will introduce you to the unique rhythm of township life, which is likely to be very different from anything you have ever experienced before. When we enter the township you are joined by a local resident guide from the area to ensure your tour is both an authentic and educational experience Visitors get to speak with locals, enjoy their food, music, arts and crafts, and a glimpse of what daily life is really like for most South Africans.
The Cape Flats, the low-lying, sandy region connecting the Cape Peninsula with the African continent, is where the majority of Cape Town’s nearly 4 million population live. Many of them in poor, underdeveloped or informal settlements, known as townships. Though living conditions in the townships are often difficult, they are home to vibrant communities with rich cultures and thriving businesses.
This tour has got to be our most highly recommended of the lot for so many reasons. The only unfortunate part is that over the years we have found some tourists with huge reservations regarding the township tour due to a very misguided moral standing regarding what the tour is about. I must assure you that the townships people and the City of Cape Town very much support and encourage this tour as it brings a lot of awareness and much needed cash flow into these lower income areas.

BOOK EVERYTHING with Wanderer if you are visiting Cape Town. My friends and I were just in town for a wedding and we needed a car to take us about… read more 2 hours outside of Cape Town. I came across Wonderer and was able to book everything through WhatsApp. We had a 6 seated Mercedes van with the best driver in the world, Andre (who put up with us having had 7 bottles of wine!). He was perfectly on time and super friendly. We then ended up booking a private day tour with Che who took us in a convertible all day to the must-see places in and around Cape Town including Cheetah Outreach, Lions, multiple wine tastings and even gave us some nice drinks in the car. He’s a super down-to-earth guy who gave us a million dollar experience for a price we could really afford. It was our day to tell him what we wanted and he made it work. Felt like we were friends with him for years. Wanderer is the must-book in Cape Town. Super safe, super reliable and all around the best tour I’ve been on (through 63 countries)!!

We have had the most amazing holiday in Capetown. 6 fantastic day excursions with Wanderer Tours. Exploring the Cape Peninsula with its breathtaking views, seal island, wine tasting at 4… read more of the most popular vineyards, Buffelsfontein Game drive where we got to scratch Elsa the lioness, an amazing 10 course lunch at the Strandloper. We were lucky to see numerous animals on our trips plus we got to pet a Cheetah. Then there were 100s of penguins on Boulders Beach. Robben Island and a cable ride up Table mountain. The week ended with an eye opening tour with MC of THE Langa Township where we met some extraordinary people surviving extreme conditions. We learnt how to cook Malay style with Faeeza and shopped at the local spice market with Shireen. Che was our guide for the week. He is an amazing ambassador for South Africa. Nothing was too much trouble and he took wonderful care of us. His passion and knowledge of South Africa and its history is very impressive. We cannot wait to return.
