Why visit Muizenberg
The row of primary-coloured Victorian bathing huts on Muizenberg Beach is one of the most instantly recognisable images of Cape Town.
The long, mellow beach break is the city's best beginner surf spot — a fun stop even if you're just watching from the promenade.
Where Muizenberg is
Muizenberg sits on the False Bay coastline, roughly 25km and 25 minutes south of central Cape Town.
It's on the return leg of a classic Cape Point tour, between Simon's Town and the M3 back into the city.
What to expect
A quick photo stop at the beach huts on Surfer's Corner.
Time on the promenade for a walk, coffee or gelato.
In summer the beach is lively with families and surf schools; in winter it's quieter but often glorious.
Best time to visit
Warm afternoons for the classic beach-hut photograph in good light.
Mornings for uncrowded promenade walks and a swim.
How to include Muizenberg in a Wanderer private tour
On a private Wanderer Cape Point tour we usually pass through Muizenberg on the return, with a short stop for photos and a coffee if you want one.
For guests keen to surf we can also arrange a beginner lesson at Muizenberg as a stand-alone half-day.
Practical tips
- Never leave valuables on the beach — treat it like any busy urban beach.
- Water is a little warmer than the Atlantic side but still on the cool side of comfortable.
