Overview
About Paragliding Cape Town
Wanderer does not directly operate paragliding flights. Every tandem experience is delivered by a specialist third-party operator whose experienced pilots handle equipment, safety briefing and flight from take-off to landing. The specific operator, launch point, flight time and inclusions are confirmed before booking, and the day's conditions decide the exact flight window.
The Cape Town paragliding experience is a tandem flight — you are clipped into a harness in front of a qualified tandem pilot who handles the glider from launch to touchdown. A short jog off the hill lifts you into the air within seconds, and from there the glide is calm, controlled and unusually quiet, with scenic views across the Atlantic Seaboard, the city bowl, Table Mountain and the beaches below.
Signal Hill was the take-off point historically listed on our old paragliding page and is still the most commonly used launch site in Cape Town. The final take-off point on the day is confirmed by the operator based on wind direction and safety, and Lion's Head or an alternative launch is only used where the operator specifically confirms it. This is why paragliding in Cape Town is described as weather dependent rather than fixed — the window can shift and a flight may be rescheduled to a better day.
Flight time historically sat in the range of a few short minutes for a straightforward flight up to a longer glide when conditions allowed, and the old page listed a return transfer from the landing site back to the take-off point along with all equipment included. Because operators, packages and inclusions can change, the current flight time, equipment and transfer details are all confirmed before booking rather than promised on the page.
Wanderer's role is to make the whole experience feel simple. We help coordinate the paragliding enquiry, share date and group-size options, request operator availability, plan private Mercedes-Benz transport where suitable and slot the activity into a wider Cape Town Activities day, private day tour or holiday package. If the wind changes we manage the rebooking directly with the operator and re-plan the day around your remaining stay.
Paragliding pairs beautifully with a wider Wanderer day — a morning Cape Town City Tour with a mid-morning flight before the wind gets up, a Winelands day with a late-afternoon glide, or a Cape Peninsula day tour bookended by a tandem flight when the forecast lines up. The activity itself takes little time; the flexibility of the day makes it fit almost any itinerary.
