Why visit Signal Hill
Signal Hill's flat summit gives a 270° view over the Atlantic Seaboard, the City Bowl and the Table Bay harbour — the classic Cape Town sunset spot.
It's also the traditional launch site for tandem paragliding flights that finish on the lawns of Sea Point.
Where Signal Hill is
The summit is a 15-minute drive from the CBD via Kloof Nek Road, at the northern end of the Signal Hill / Lion's Head road.
What to expect
A large tar parking area and viewing lawns on the summit, with picnic spots and a small food van most evenings in season.
The Noon Gun is fired on the lower slopes above Bo-Kaap at 12:00 sharp, Monday to Saturday — a Cape Town institution since 1902.
Best time to visit
Sunset is unbeatable — arrive 45 minutes before to secure a good spot.
The road can close in extreme wind; check with your guide on the day.
How to include Signal Hill in a Wanderer private tour
On a Wanderer private city tour we time the itinerary so you're on Signal Hill for sunset — usually after Bo-Kaap, Company's Garden and a V&A Waterfront stop.
Tandem paragliding launches from Signal Hill can also be built into a custom private day.
Practical tips
- Bring a warm layer — it's cool and windy at the top.
- Come early on weekends and public holidays.
