Cape Town Science Centre | Interactive Exhibits & Science Shows
The Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC), located at 370B Main Road in Observatory, is a vibrant, non-profit space that aims to spark curiosity and inspire a love for science in visitors of all ages. With over 250 interactive exhibits, the center provides hands-on experiences that make learning enjoyable and engaging. Some of the standout attractions include the Concor Building Site, where kids can build their own structures, the brain-teasing Puzzling Things, and the Audio Kinetic Sculpture that visually and audibly illustrates scientific concepts.
Admission fees are R95 for adults and youth aged 3–18, R45 for pensioners, and R340 for a family of four. If you’re coming with a group of 10 or more, you can take advantage of a discounted rate of R85 per person, just remember to book ahead. Annual memberships are also available for R290 for individuals and R120 for au pairs or nannies, which come with perks like unlimited visits, discounts on special programs, and a complimentary gyroscope ride each time you visit.
The CTSC offers regular programming, including daily science shows at 1:00 p.m., Camera Obscura tours at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. (weather permitting), and Astrotrek Virtual Reality experiences for an extra R5. The center also hosts themed weekend workshops, like the “Science Through the Ages” program, which explores the history of scientific discovery.
For a bite to eat, visitors can unwind at the iCafe, which serves a variety of light meals and drinks, plus free Wi-Fi. The CTSC is open Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 16:30 and on public holidays from 10:00 to 16:30, but it’s closed on Sundays.
