Overview

About 5 Day Cape Town Itinerary

The three cornerstones remain the City (Day 1), the Cape Peninsula (Day 2) and the Winelands (Day 3) — see the 3-day package for detail. What five days adds is breathing room and depth.

Day 4 is a specialist day. In whale season (roughly June–November) we usually drive to Hermanus for whale watching from the cliffs or a licensed boat trip. Outside whale season, we offer a full-day safari to Aquila, a helicopter and V&A Waterfront day, a Franschhoek-only wine day, or a food-and-art day around the city and Constantia.

Day 5 is a day at leisure or a slow farewell day. Some guests use it for a spa morning and beach afternoon; others do a light half-day — a Bo-Kaap walking tour, a private Groot Constantia wine tasting — before heading to the airport. Wanderer books whatever fits, or holds Day 5 as a genuine free day.

The pacing works because it alternates full-days with the mountain-and-peninsula effort and slower, food-focused days. Guests coming off long-haul flights land into a real holiday, not a marathon.

As with all Wanderer packages, everything is private. Your Mercedes-Benz and your Wanderer guide/chauffeur are yours for the five days. We book restaurant reservations, cable-car tickets, activities and Winelands estates. Airport transfers both ends included.

Pricing is by vehicle (private-tour portion) plus accommodation separately. Two guests pay the same as six for the touring — very good value for couples and family groups. Hotels, apartments and villas are quoted based on your choice — see our accommodation pages.

Frequently asked

Questions about 5 Day Cape Town Itinerary

Is 5 days better than 3?

Yes — 5 gives you the classics without rushing, plus one specialist day and a leisure day. It's the sweet spot for a Cape Town holiday.

What's the Day 4 default?

Whales in season (Jun–Nov), a full-day Aquila safari otherwise. Helicopter + Waterfront and food-day options are equally popular.

Can we add safari?

Yes — a 2-night Kruger or Sabi Sand safari after Cape Town is one of the most popular add-ons. Ask about combined itineraries.

Is a rental car worth it?

For a private-guide holiday, no — you have a chauffeur. Rental only makes sense if you want independent free days after the 5.

How is Day 5 structured?

Deliberately open. Some guests do a half-day tour and airport transfer; others sleep in, do a spa or beach morning, and leave in the afternoon.

Can we swap the order?

Yes — order is flexible. Long-haul arrivals often prefer Peninsula on Day 1 (car-based) rather than City (walking-based).

Do you cater for families?

Yes — child-friendly Winelands, penguin stops, cable car time, and slower pacing all built in on request.

How is pricing calculated?

By vehicle for the touring plus accommodation separately. Priced per group not per person for the touring — very good value at 4+ guests.

When should we book?

3–4 months for Dec/Jan. 4–6 weeks for shoulder season. Winter often works with 2–4 weeks' notice.

Which hotel works best?

V&A Waterfront for convenience; Camps Bay for beach; Constantia for garden. See our hotels page for the shortlist.

What if the weather turns?

We re-sequence days on the fly — swap a mountain day for a Winelands day, or a Peninsula day for a Franschhoek day.

How do I book?
